PRIMARY 5- SECONDARY 1 AGE GROUP

GHK Junior Hockey Club training sessions take place on a Wednesday night. The session for Primary 5 to Secondary 1 age groups will run from 5.30-6.30pm at the High School of Glasgow Astroturf pitch.

Sessions commenced on Wednesday 19th January 2011 and will end on Wednesday 30th March 2011. Membership runs on a block basis. The cost for an 8 week block is £30. To improve the quality of the sessions, we limit numbers to 50. Only those signed up to a full block will be eligible to attend the training nights.

SECONDARY 2 AND 3 AGE GROUP (INTERMEDIATES)

The last Intermediates session for 2010-2011 season will take place on Thursday 31st March 2011.

We have decided to develop the talent of those players in school years Secondary 1 and 2 in our Intermediates section.  We recognise that this age group has a great deal of enthusiasm for hockey and we want to build on this and help to maintain it through to full participation in "senior" hockey.  However we also recognise that this age group has a number of competing demands on their time and are likely to be committed to playing hockey on a Saturday morning as well as potentially other sporting commitments.  We have therefore decided not to include this age group in our "senior" set up and games to try and ensure there is not physical "burn-out".  We also want to protect the enthusiasm by protecting these players from playing games that are too serious which would dent confidence and enjoyment at an important stage. 

We therefore offer training on Thursdays from 6-7pm at the High School of Glasgow astroturf pitch.  We do not offer regular weekend games until an individual player has been assessed as ready to move up to "senior hockey".  We will however arrange games during the season against teams who play at the appropriate level and who will support the development of this group. 

If you have any questions about this group please contact Sus McGilveray, who is the co-ordinator of this group but will liaise with the "senior" committee and our junior club and therefore may not be able to make decisions about this group without first speaking to other members of the club.  Updates about training time and dates will be kept on this website.
